“Wellbeing”, not just a buzzword…
We are all currently living through a very challenging time. Now more than ever, it is crucial that employers start to show an interest in their employee’s wellbeing and mental (and physical) state.
There can be a big human cost to poor mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, as well large financial costs. Gov.uk estimates that absenteeism and presentee-ism, due to mental health issues, costs employers between £33 billion and £42 billion each year, with an annual cost to the UK economy of between £74 billion and £99 billion.
What can we do?
A great way to engage with your teams is to simply ask them!
Here are our 3 simple (but effective!) ways that we engage with our people…
Daily Video Call
Video meetings and calls are a great way to gauge how people are feeling. We’ve also found this helps maintain structure, as well as a chance for everyone to see the faces of those people they are used to spending so much time around!
Daily Score
Each member of the team provides us with a score from 1 to 10 on how they are feeling each morning, based on their general mood. These scores help us easily identify people that may be struggling and need a little more love.
Daily Win
We ask each of our employees to tell us a daily win, which can be as big as winning a large order, or as simple as spending some quality time with the kids. Professional or personal, a win is a win!
The next steps
At Pensar, we believe that investing in our teams’ wellbeing can deliver substantial bottom-line returns, not only financially but more importantly for the benefit of our employee’s mental and physical health.
I think what we’re trying to say is that we all need to take responsibility for not only ourselves but for those that are around us, the people we may take for granted every day in the office, especially during the current hard times.
